Remember

A-Z Challenge – ‘R’

Yesterday was a sad day to remember; my wife and attended the funeral of her best friend. So for ‘R’ I offer you:

Remember
Remember me when I have gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land,
When you can no longer hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far that you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

What a beautiful poem, how suitable at a time like this. Thank you for posting it.

Sorry for you loss. But I do love the meaning of this poem. Better to remember the good times, the fun and joy, to celebrate what was had than to be sad and mourn a loss.
