Transportation - Sunday Stamps

For this week's transportation theme I tried to avoid stamps I've shown before. What I found I've tried to put into an age sequence.

Poland - Stagecoach
Switching to the rails I found this locomotive in Germany.

Germany
And this train in Mexico.

Mexico
I returned home to get on the buses.

Great Britain - Buses
I went by bus to Newcastle recently - it broke down before we were half way there!

For luxury you have to sail on an ocean liner (which I've never done).

RMS Queen Elizabeth 2
RMS Queen Mary 2
For other transport you need to sail off  to Viridian's Sunday Stamps 60

A great collection Bob. I have one of the 5d Ship stamp and have never seen the one depicting the buses. Was that a recent one?

The buses came in a set of five (I think) in May 2001, the 150th anniversary of the first double decker shown at the Great Exhibition in 1851.

Your stamp collection is very interesting. When I was a kid I would only collect stamps from Egypt and England. Today, I have no clue where they went.

I love stagecoaches but they must have been very uncomfortable to travel in. If there was no space you had to sit on top of the luggage and in British weather that must have been a miserable experience.

I love the stylised smoke of the German one, so unusual. I thought of using the Queen Elizabeth liner too but then went with land transport.

Hi Bob .. great set of photos and info ... you could be on a train, which can't leave because the one in front of it has broken down. Or on a tube line that's closed for the day - when you want to get home! I'm not sure I'd cruise now .. after recent events ... so your bus journey matches up!! Frustrating to say the least though ..

Cheers Hilary

Been there, done that! But not lately, Hilary

The RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 stamp is very striking, and the cancellation marks look like waves.

I rarely get to see bus stamps, and these are really cool!
I prefer going by train than by bus though...despite it is slower...but the ride is more enjoyable and much cheaper too :)

Thanks Bob for that extremely fun romp through several countries, and I didn't have to handle any luggage, and got to go on my second sail on the Queen Mary in one day...and about 20 minutes apart! The newer bus stamp is really kind of cool....although you can't beat the fine tailored artwork in like the train from Germany....all a very nice collection!

I like the last one because of the cruise ship.

great selection, I must have missed the GB buses set, but they look very nice. Perhaps another one will be along soon - haha ;)

I love the buses - I don't remember them at all. I do have the QEII though.

I really like the clouds of smoke coming out of the German locomotive - as well as the jaunty chap with the odd looking hat!
