Island Beaches - Sepia Saturday

I must have walked a few miles along island sands, sometimes with a dog, but never with a gun like Robinson Crusoe below:

The Isle of Skye may be connected to the mainland now by a bridge but in 1957 it was unreachable from -

The foreshore on the island of Raasay
The week of our geological expedition from St Andrews the weather threatened to spoil our stay.

Whereas on the Isles of Scilly it was much more welcoming.

Tresco beach
And not crowded at all.

One man's footsteps
He must have got separated from his dog.

Buster waiting for someone to join him
A North Yorkshire beach is comparatively crowded.

Dogs at Saltburn
Further down that beach the cliffs are menacing.

Any footprints here are filled in quickly in the squelchy sand.

Those in Cornwall are much easier to see even though we may not know who made them at the time.

While Aphrodite strides out from beneath the sea

a curlew decides to make itself scarce along the River Tees.

If you had wondered where I've been for so long I'll just leave you to guess on which deserted island I have been marooned while you check other posts at Sepia-Saturday-308.

I was wondering that, and am none the wiser now. I like those threatening skies, so long as you don't get caught out in resulting storms.

There is something about where the sea meets the sky that provides such a wonderful frame for a photograph. I have never been to Scilly, but most of the others will have had my footprints on them at one time or another.

The sea, the sand and the sky, such a perfect combination.

I was going to pick a favourite but I kept changing my mind. They are all enticing and make you want to head for a lonely beach.

Good to see you back, Bob, on Sepia Saturday, and with such a beautiful portrayal of beaches.

I've only been there once many years ago, but the Isle of Skye is my favorite dream island. I have no desire for a tropical clime with white sand beaches. I'd happily be a castaway one of Scotland's wild changeable islands.

When we visited the Western Isles of Scotland in September, I was unprepared for and amazed at how mountainous they are! So beautiful. We took a ferry to the Isle of Skye - a seagull calmly riding along with us on the rail. But we came back by way of the Skye Bridge which is quite impressive.

I enjoyed this post. In particular I liked the photos with the reflections in the wet sand and also the final photo.

It is making me homesick though! I miss the beach (but not the cold winds)!

This was a really pleasant journey to take from my chair. Thank you.

The photo with the dogs is my favorite. I like the reflection of them and the people in the sand.
