Up the Reds! - Thematic Photography

You are more likely to hear their fans shout, "Come on, Boro" than "Up the Reds" even thought the team play in red. "Red" is Carmi's theme this week so I thought I would share these photos taken during a tour of the football stadium in 2004.

Stand seats MFC
No spectators in the ground as the tour was in the closed season when no matches are played. However in the home dressing room evidence of the players was plain to see.

Players shirts
Just last week Juninho, regarded by many as Boro's greatest player, was back on Teesside for a final farewell match.

I remember seeing one Boro fan tear up his season ticket and throw it at Steve MaClaren somewhere near that area in the middle picture. As a Man U supporter (we also play in red) I felt sorry for MaClaren and he proved his point by going onto that UEFA final that same year.

Well played Bob! A good match! Where I come from ‘Up the Reds’ means Nottingham Forest; I know absolutely nothing about football, but I do know some clever photos when I see them.

Very red!

Ahh, red's a good color for a football team. As soon as I read your post about football and red, I thought about my Alma Mater, the University of Utah. Great choice.

I like the shot of all the empty chairs. Very good.

I didn't know when I posted this that 25 years ago today the Boro was insolvent and the gates to their former ground at Ayresome Park were locked.

The club was refinanced and managed to continue at the Riverside as the going concern it is today, even although it is playing in the Championship.

Thank God They Got Rid of those 'orrible shirts they once played in (the ones with the thick white stripe in the middle)
I hope they have a good season (except against West Ham!)

How cool that you got to shoot this magnificent facility during the off-season! There's a real sense of peace in this place, and your pictures capture this wonderfully!

How fun to be there on the field. Must have seemed so huge looking up into the stands. Fantastic shots from a seldom seen viewpoint.
