Thematic Photography - Red

You may, like me. have trouble in deciding what is really red - so here are some shades of red from our garden this morning.

Red - Sunday Stamps II

Last year I was given an old album printed in 1962. It contained a stamp from 1960 commemorating the 50th anniversary of an  aeroplane's first flight.

Romania - 17 June 1960

This was the anniversary of the first flight of the plane built by Romanian engineer Aurel Vlaicu. He built four planes before he was killed in 1913 attempting to be the first to fly across the Carpathian Mountains.

I guess millions of planes have flown over the white cliffs of Dover, although as a young boy in wartime I associated them with bluebirds and did not expect to see them feature on a red postage stamp.

That was the year, as a schoolboy, I went to London to see the Festival of Britain on the South Bank of the Thames.

I've always been surprised that neither the Dome of Discovery nor the Skylon from the Festival have ever appeared on stamps.

The Colour Red - Sunday Stamps II

Finding a stamp that was red without another shade or colour proved more difficult than I thought.

These two are the best I could come up with.

Spain - 24 March 1963

This was one of a set of stamps showing stamps by Jose de Ribera and depicts St John the Bapist.

My GB stamp this week was one of a set commemorating the London 2010 Festival of Stamps and the Centenary of the Accession of King George V.

Oh and the Gibbons' catalogue calls the colour 'rosine'.

Seeing Red - Thematic Photography

In meeting the weekly themes set by Carmi I'm seeing things and interpreting photos in a different way than was intented when they were taken. Here's some that have me 'Seeing Red.'

Anemone

This plant has been in our garden for a long time, but decided to flower this past summer.

Cody has been around a long time too but is always ready for a game. When his coat is long then he is reddish as well.

Also at the ready at Stockton's riverside was this fire engine with the high reach ladder and hose.

A pedigree Border Collar with her red prizes has a water connection as well.

This house in Yarm maintains both the red and and the water link.

 And finally there is this fellow, definitely seeing red after flying into our lounge window early one morning.
