Thematic Photography - Green

This week last year a shot in Michigan caught a squirrel in the act of sneaking across the grass.

But when we got home the green grass was strewn with apples.

This afternoon I have spent some time peeling apples to be stewed rather than being left to feed our local squirrels.

To see what other greens are available check out Thematic-photographic-424-green.

Later this week the most important greens will be those in France prepared for the Ryder Cup.

Thematic Photography - On the street

Towards the end of the season some holiday streets empty a little just like this in Cornwall.

Uphill in St Mawgan
The entrance to where we are staying is just beyond that red car.

Bollards outside the church ready for wedding cars
The building with the blue sign is the Falcon Inn, the Post Office and village shop is down the street to the left.

Turn round and then right over a small bridge, a narrow street leads out of the village.

There is barely enough room for vehicles to pass each other. The street steepens round the corner where on the left there is a public footpath to Mawgan Porth. And then -

Up the street to Treance
However an interesting test is on the pitch and putt course on the right of yet another hill.

Thematic Photography - Lights On.

This is a view from the window in our hotel room in Padstow.

But when it gets dark we need

Lights on
The view outside changes too

More lights on
That's it for this holiday week. See more at  Thematic-photographic-422.

Thematic Photography - Many, many things

I can only drool over the many, many things in Carmi's photo this week and keep my eye on more mundane sights.

A chattering of starlings
You can hear them from some distance away.

This is the time of year when many berries appear.

Many, many elderberries from just one flower head
The oak trees have many clusters of acorns like this - before the squirrels start to stash them away.

August acorns
The rattling of some seed heads may catch your attention.

Many, many seed heads - but count the seeds and there's even more.
Some trees have already begun dropping their fruit.

Beech mast on the footpath
I guess you could say that that would have qualified for the 'floored' theme last week as could -

Many, many pebbles in our drive.
But how did those two weeds get there?

You may dip into many, many scrumptious things at Thematic-photographic-421.

Thematic Photography - Floored

You should not slip up on the industrial flooring that Carmi has posted for this prompt.

It reminded me that every day on my walk to collect a newspaper I pass over these studs warning the blind or poorly sighted that there is a road to be crossed.

Many drives to houses have been blocked paved but there are some that are more interesting.

Pebbles and a mixture of stones set in concrete
I guess that they are a bit of a bumpy ride; much smoother are these recycled cobbles.

However the first uncarpeted floor I see each day is the one in our kitchen - with tiles that originated in Spain.

Trees - Thematic Photography

There are some village trees you become attached to, like these sycamores which stand next door to our front garden.

These beech trees has just been trimmed with the Council's approval. You are not allowed to 'butcher' them.

They are right next to the footpath and from the size of their girth they must have stood there for at least 200 years.

Further up the road is the nearest walnut tree to our bungalow - 400 plus yards away.

I wonder every year if this is where the squirrels get the nuts I keep finding, buried in our back lawn.

As you will have seen it's too early yet for any of these to be in leaf.

However with the horse chestnut in the local wood there are the first signs of things to come.

In the woods themselves there are different signs of life in the trees.

A tree trunk with its roots ripped out of the ground
But check out all the young trees and saplings that surround it, promising to more than fill the gap that it has left.

Elsewhere in the wood there is little left of what was once a tree.

Back home I find the sycamores' revenge in the gravel of our pull-in.

Last year I had to weed out nearly 2000 of the damned things!

Guess I'll need a rest before I get down to that. Just one set of trees to move first.

Dirty - Thematic Photography

This is a theme that  Carmi uses regularly. The best of my previous posts will always be here  from five years ago.

Today's few shots do not match up to those but here goes,

Same spot as last week's watery theme
Nature's dead tree dirt
Look closely for the rabbit's contribution
And if you decide to keep hens on what was once a pristine lawn -

This is their creation
If you revel in dirt then check out the shots to be reached by visiting Dirty - thematic-photographic-417.

Water - Thematic Photography

These days I regard water as something for washing in, but after 24 hours of rain earlier in the week there was a lot of standing water about.

The field in which I expect to see spring lambs
And in the woods the rabbits and squirrels don't have to go far to get a drink.

If it's obstacles you are looking for then house developers have much to look forward to when they start building yet more houses on sodden fields.

A week earlier water had turned to ice.

Icicles on our bungalow
But for a grandson who is a keen surfer, what's better than watery waves.

Junk Food - Thematic Photography

Carmi's back! - with a junk food theme. I not sure however that this market stall for pies qualifies - they certainly smelt good.

You may wish to like his facebook page Just love pies

Other sights to see were less appetising to me.

Hot dog with loads of onions and and mum's hamburger.
If that's made you hungry then check out what's on offer via the links at Thematic-photographic-415.

Knobs and Dials - Thematic Photography

Looking round our home this theme look as if it would be easy - but very mundane.

There was no need for me to get hot under the collar as -

The temperature is controlled
Some kitchen knobs get regular use.

Guess who gets to clean the wood.
When it comes to food there is a choice between

Cooker
or

Microwave
Then there are controls which I find difficult to select on the

The washing machine
It's simpler if I take the hint to freshen up -

In the shower
I can take the time to check the score at the Open Golf.

But that was the Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills in 2004
I can get a reminder each day to make better use of my time by a house in our village.

Sundial cottage
Carmi set the Knobs & Dials theme over at Thematic-photographic-414. Check it out for other contributions and/or have a go yourself.

Architecture - Thematic Photography

Two years ago I posted some views of our village church. Here are some more.

Kirklevington Church of St Hilary & St Martin
For more architectural views visit Carmi's Thematic-photographic-412.

As some of you may know it was my birthday this week and it was a sobering thought that with Carmi's the previous week I came to realise that our sons are older than him.
