Shades of Grey - Thematic Photography

There are so many shades of grey that I thought I would call this post "Fifty Shades of Grey." However that title has been used already for a book of inferior quality and which, as far as I know, has no illustrations.

I have trouble judging whether something is grey or not, so you may find my photos vary in interpretation.

However there is a definite bluish shade of grey in the feathers of this Wood Pigeon nesting in our garden hedge.

How many shades of grey can you see in this picture taken in Oxford, Michigan.

This wooden landing stage is definitely grey.

There is a bluish tinge to this grey gate. Does the cobweb qualify as light grey?

I've studied this picture on my daughter's lounge wall for years and still cannot decide what the colours are in it and on my photograph.

Detroit (I think)
Now there's just time for you to drive with me

I'm envious of your tractor, no wait, I have my own, and enjoy every moment (mine just turned over to 375 hours last night!) I agree with you on judging is it grey or not? It seems grey is that color (to me) that it can appear grey even with barely any real true grey colors. Grey is of many depths! I think your Detroit shot is my favorite though, life on the greyish side!

The cobweb totally qualifies, Bob! I almost walked into a hanging one as I walked the dog last night, so I'm totally with you on that one.

Funny you mentioned blue: I often find grey light trends to blue as the light fades. I know there's a scientific optical reason for it, but I'm just as content to appreciate it for what it is: magic.

Barnacles on rocks at Padstow, Cornwall

For some reason "Pulling Mussels From A Shell" comes to mind.

A very nice collection, Bob.

Lovely photos, my favourite is the pigeon (grey with some blue...)

I really like the first one, with barnacles, the best...agree about that book, have not read it and will not. I also like the trees reflected in the pond in the last shot.

Definitely grey, and seriously great shots!
I like the landing stage best - nice shapes, and the bird completes the composition well.

Great job catching that cobweb, and the bird on the boardwalk - great pictures.

Good show, Bob. I've not seen a gray tractor before.

Take it back, the old Fordsons were gray. The similar Fords were gray with red or blue striping.

The first is my favourite because of that little splash of seaweed which contrats so nicely with....the grey!

Great collection of Gray shots you have given us. And, yes they were all grey in my book.

That spider web is amazing and I have not seen a gray mower in eons. They all seem to be red these days.

Thanks for the visit to my old gray shed.
