British Architecture - Sunday Stamps

I've had these stamps in mind for a long time, waiting for the right theme.

British Architecture - Cathedrals

These stamps were issued on 28 May 1969. The cathedrals are from the top:
  • Durham Cathedral  and York Minster
  • St Giles Edinburgh and Canterbury Cathedral
  • St Paul's Cathedral and Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
The colours have not scanned well and tend to be deeper and harsher than on the actual stamps.

For more architecture check the stamps posted by others at Viridian's Sunday Stamps 65

These are a really lovely set of stamps. I like the colours alot - it is a pity they didn't scan so well.

That's a special article, very good idea with these stamps.

The coloured effect made them an unusual set of stamps, I also like the use of an interior decoration. Fascinating places to visit too, although looking at the list despite Liverpool being the nearest in distance its the only one I've not been in.

I have been to two of them, St Giles and York, pretty good for an American. thank you for the suggestion of Architecture for a theme. And thanks for joining in.

This is an excellent set of stamps. I was a student in Liverpool and then lived there for long enough, but never did visit the metropolitan cathedral.

Nice stamps! Do you do Postcrossing? I noticed you follow a Postcrossing blog. It's a good way to get stamps and postcards. I've been a member for a while but lapsed for a while during a recent move. I'm getting back into it soon.

I like the way the stamp design included a detail from the building.

Lovely, but why wasn’t Salisbury commemorated I wonder?

With so many wonderful cathedrals, it must have been a tough decision which ones to use.
I like the Liverpool modernist look.

I vaguely remember seeing some of the lower values, but haven't seen the high values of that set.
