A-Z Challenge 2021 - Photo Shoot: D - Deer, Ducks, Denmark

It's not just in Britain that ducks abound.

On the Clinton River in Rochester, Michigan

They know where the picnic tables are!

When we are in Michigan I do not have to look far for deer.

Just over a roadside fence

One of many that visit my daughter's home

I have delivered lots of training courses in Denmark and could not miss this in Copenhagen.

Out For A Walk - Thematic Photography

So many of my posts on Thematic Photography are taken on my daily walk to collect a newspaper; this week's theme is no different.

Except, that is, the last 24 hours have been wet (it's raining still) and at times very windy. No surprise then that our front garden is covered by debris from the sycamore trees that grow on either side of us.

Leaves on the grass

Although it was still raining as I went up the road, my spirits were lifted by the sight of -

Charlie
Charlie, a Yorkshire terrier, is always in a hurry and he does not like the wet. It's even more poignant because he's blind - not that stops him sprinting along on the lead.

Max, the golden labrador, is always delighted to be out, especially when he can wear -

His glamorous red coat
My walk is not without its hazards with a three-inch deep puddle just where I want to cross.

The rain still falls
I'm glad that this not our drive.

On a miserable day like this sometimes it is difficult to see -

The trees for the wood
All in all it's a day when corners of fields are ideal for ducks.

When I get home there will be work for me, removing -

More sycamore leaves
I just hope that others you can find at Carmi;s Thematic-photographic-390. have had a drier time.

Bird of the week

There are a number of fields near where we live that are so waterlogged that they are a favourite place for ducks like these today.

Two drakes and a hen mallard duck

Although you can quite clearly see the female on the ground I didn't realise she was there until I saved the photos to my computer.

Just out of shot were two more drakes. Pictures taken from 30 yards away.

Multiples - Thematic Photography

There is a watery connection running through my pictures this week for Carmi's 'multiple' theme.

Multiple boats and masts, and... at Fowey, Cornwall
On the Isles of Scilly my multiples have a maritime connection.

Ship Figureheads at the Valhalla, Maritime Museum in Tresco Abbey Gardens
Nature has multiples too. the first of which you may have seen before.

Ducks on the Clinton River alongside Rochester Park's Paint Creek Trail in Michigan
More bird multiples in Scotland.

Swans and their cygnets
Finally it's the turn of a magic basket.

Basket weave
There is even a water connection with this. Dirty clothes dropped into the magic basket magically reappear clean and bright in wardrobes and drawers after being washed, dried and ironed (where necessary).

For more multiple multiples you need to dash away with a smoothing iron to Carmi's Thematic-photographic-263.

On the Water - Thematic Photography

I've decided to start my 'On the Water' theme with a few birds.

Ducks on the Clinton River at Rochester, Michigan
I think they were waiting to be fed by passers by. Meanwhile at Saltholme Nature Reserve near Middlesbrough in England no one would attempt to feed this water bird.

Coot at RSPB Saltholme
There is another nature reserve adjacent to the River Tees at Stockton.

Herons at Portrack Nature Reserve
The smaller birds round the island are plovers (also called peewits or lapwings) presumably there for a drink or what they could find in the mud.

At Fowey in Cornwall I found this steaming along.

Steamboat in Fowey Estuary
My daughter was in that boat on a short trip round the harbour in 2008.

Finally we have a stand off.

Gem, Cody and Lily
But which one will get that floating ball.

Hope you liked my selection of water shots; more interesting to me than photos of big ships. But don't let that stop you sailing across to Carmi's Thematic-photographic-229
