Sunday Stamps -Birds: USA, Dubai

This has been one of my favourite themes for over the 10 years that I have been taking part in Sunday Stamps.

The Migratory Bird Treaty between Canada and the United States was signed in 1916 and after 50 years in 1966 it was commemorated by -

USA - 16 March 1966

I have a spreadsheet on which I record each day the type of birds that I can see in or from my village garden. Occasionally each year I see a kestrel hovering over the fields nearby. However when I visit my daughter's home in Michigan I have yet to see the more colourful American kestrel -

This is the self-adhesive issue, the original stamp having been used from 1995.

I will never see two birds in my garden that appear on stamps from Dubai.

Children, Games and Toys - Sunday Stamps

I found stamps from several countries that met the theme this week.

And then one of my daughter's favourite bears all the way from Peru.

"More About Paddington" by Michael Bond with Peggy Fortnum's illustrations was first published in 1959.

These four stamps were what I originally meant to post until I found this presentation pack of mint stamps on my favourite market stall.

The stamps depict from left to right;

• 19p - Toy aeroplane and train
• 27p - Building bricks
• 32p - Board games
• 35p - Toys

The information card is a gem in itself covering the history of toys. The pack also contained a second set of the stamps and a Stamp Card for each one, like this;

Earlier this week I was posting a letter to my daughter in the USA and there, in the post office counter window was the set of space science stamps which were issued on 16 October 2012.

I was quite impressed by them, but when I got them home I was even more impressed by the information on the accompanying card. Here's a sample:-

This is just one panel of the three section folds on the reverse. There is more on the front two sections as well as the stamps themselves. I take back all those rude things I've said about Royal Mail stamps in the past.
