I had to visit my market stall and the local flea market to find stamps for this week's child/children theme. Both places always have lots of first day covers, so much so that I recognise the names and addresses on the envelopes.

That was a lovely set, I only ever remember seeing the 9p on mail. It's always been difficult to collect the higher values used.

The stamps are soooo beautiful, Bob. They show another era, when children were allowed to be natural.
My market stall's FDCs seem to fluctuate in number but I remember seeing one of these, I think it was the little train that stuck in my mind. I liked this stamp issue, and the books.
I was tempted to use these stamps myself. They are an extremely attractive set and to me far preferable to the Disneyfied versions.
Those are really pretty drawings and they go together well. I keep wondering what you market stall is like--I wish I could see it.

I agree with Postcardy - I am curious too as to what your "market stall' looks like. It must be vastly different than a coin and stamp shop in a strip mall in America.

Only one I couldn't quite make out was Wind in the Willows, what great stamps. No Paddington Bear though? I know he has a stamp, I've got one somewhere sent to me by the author's daughter.
Those are some really cool stamps! I wish I had a set like one of those here.
They are lovely stamps. And certainly the stuff childhood is made of.
When I was at the stamp fair this weekend, I thought of looking for something for this theme, but when i was offered Disney, I balked. Am afraid I have a severe aversion to Disney images. These drawings are much more my style.

Such a beautiful collection of stamps! Peter Rabbit of course is cute. And I'm not that fond of Alice in Wonderland (I read this book as a child and I thought it scary, and/or just didn't understand it at that time).
But I love the original version of Winnie-the-Pooh, and Wind in the Willows. And even though I've seen these illustrations several times before, I've never realized until now that these were created by the same illustrator, E.H. Shepard. So thank you for letting me learn more about this, Bob!
