Great Danes - Sepia Saturday

When I saw that this week's prompt was showing cycling in Copenhagen I decided I had seen enough in the Olympics.

As I have spent a lot of time in Denmark and Copenhagen it seemed natural to show pictures taken in the city. But for reasons that will become apparent I changed my mind and took a different tack.

Great Dane (XI International Dog Show, Krakow 2007)

Alright, I know Krakow is not in Denmark but you must admire the dog.

At least you should agree that it would be good to start the day of with this:

Danish bacon being cooked
(By The Legendary Sky Attacker - 2009)

Although if you have a sweet tooth this may be what you prefer.

A Pecan & Maple Danish by Cuisine de France
(Oct 2008 - by Yohan euan o4 - CC A 3.0 unported license)

I had intended to include my photos of Copenhagen but found that one I wanted to use was in danger of infringing an artists copyright. However I found this illustration  instead.

The Little Mermaid
Illustration by Vilhelm Pedersen for H.C. Andersen's fairy tale

So from a Great Dane to another in Hans Christian Andersen I decided to sign off with a video of another small maid introduced by the late Danny Kaye.

Bob, I think you deserve a gold medal for creative association. In any case, that bacon has distracted me enough that I need to go get a snack.

Thumbelina takes me back many years.

I remember visiting Odense where HCK lived, delightful town. He was certainly a great Dane.

A great Danish selection (and I think you are right to avoid yet more Olympics) Looking at the pictures I realise that I have never been to Denmark : I must put it on my list to visit before I get too old and feeble.

Love the twist you have given to this weeks theme! After reading it I sort of missed good old Victor Borge but then again, mentioning all famous Danes is asking a bit too much.

I have been to Denmark once, back in the 70's......I remember wandering onto a nude beach (unknown to me!)& being chased -off by some irrate naked middle aged bloke (Im still not sure why HE was cross with ME !) It kinda scarred me for life! Thanks for reminding me of it Bob!!!!!! :)

I'm enjoying the Olympics on tv, but I certainly appreciate this diversion. Danny Kaye - what a talent!

I love Danny Kaye movies, especially the Inspector General.

I have only passed through Denmark on the way to Norway in the 1981, and that was just the airport. I have eaten many danish coffee cakes.

I agree with Christine, 9.8 for creative association. (0.2 points deducted for a Polish Great Dane:-)

I completely agree with Christine! I'm always happy to see any of your dog posts and photos, but with all this twist you rounded out a wonderful Sepia Saturday. My first and most favorite baby doll ( I still have today) is Thumbelina!

The Danish bacon had me salivating. Not so keen on sweet stuff, but anything with Danny Kaye gets my vote!

Creative post and the danish looks divine! I love Danny Kaye, although I've never seen this movie - thanks for posting it. The child actress looks so familiar.
