Sunday Stamps - Air Travel ; Great Britain

We have no intention of travelling by air during the pandemic but the means of flying by my selection this week would not be possible anyway.

From a set covering British aircraft designers -

Gloster Meteor T Max 7 - 10 June 1997

And celebrating the 50 Anniversary of Passenger Jet Aviation Airlines, the plane that will never be surpassed.

Concorde - 2 May 2002

And just for fun -

Meccano Constructor Biplane - 18 September 2003

And it's not all hot air just check other means of transport by following the links at Air mail

Sunday Stamps - Children; Great Britain

I'm having trouble finding stamps I have not shown before on many of the themes now that I have been on Sunday Stamps so long.

I have 'cheated' this week by posting two stamps that I have not yet seen other than in these images.

Great Britain - 20 October 2019
This is from a series of recent stamps commemorating the 20th anniversary of 'The Gruffalo' - a children's picture book by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Alex Scheffler.

The series issued in 2017 on Classic Toys included this -

Great Britain - 22 August 2017
I wonder what happened to the Meccano set I had as a boy. I never made anything anywhere as impressive with it as that shown on the stamp.

For more children related stamps visit them at the links on Sunday Stamps.

Toys for Christmas - Sunday Stamps II

In 1968 the Christmas stamps show children with toys, just right for this week's theme.

Great Britain - Christmas 1968
In addition to the 'Children with Rocking Horse' and the 'Boy with Train Set' there was a third (9d) stamp of a 'Girl with Doll's House' which I need to complete the set.

The 2003 series of Classic Transport Toys included this:-

Great Britain - 18 September 2002

It doesn't seem 65 years ago that I had a Meccano set (I wonder what happened to it) with which I spent many happy hours. I never built a plane with it, as far as I can remember.
