Sunday Stamps - Things that Fly: USA

Really this ought to be 'Things that flew'.

But without the first of these when would the others have come along,

USA - 22 May 2003
This was issued to commemorate the Wright Brothers' Kitty Hawk that first flew 17 December 1903 in North Carolina,

In 1968 the US air mail service passed its 50th anniversary and was commemorated by this stamp -

USA - 15 May 1968
The plane is a Curtiss Jenny.

Love a biplane. My impression of the one on the sheet is of fragility.

I agree with Joy - I cannot imagine having the courage to fly in one of those delicate-looking early planes.

Great stamps today, Bob.

My first thought was that the first one looks like it is made of rice paper. It looks so beautiful and delicate.

Beautiful stamps - and the first pilots must have been brave people (all consequent and present pilots I think brave, too!)
