Light at the End of the Tunnel - Sepia Saturday

I've tried to stick with the station theme with these shots sent to me by my daughter a few years ago.

Washington DC Subway Station

The light shining through a much older structure makes a contrast with the shadows it created.

Fountains Abbey
Fountains Abbey near Ripon in North Yorkshire gives a photographer a lot of scope to obtain pictures enhanced by light effects as shown by this second shot.

That stripe on the grass looks as if it has been painted there.

I especially like the first subway photo. It has a sensation of speed as well as light.

As well as the wonderful pictures, especially of Fountains Abbey, I enjoyed the play on words.

Great photos but I don't think I'd like to be down in that subway... too much ceiling! Fountains Abbey, on the other hand, is a lovely place to be... all that sky!

I've been to this subway station before. Washington DC has and amazing underground system. I like how you have made the tunnel comparison with the cathedral arches. You're so fortunate to have that wonderful architecture there. Thanks for visiting my crazy blog and leaving your nice comments. :)

What a great contrast between these two sets of photos. One reflects streamlined speed; the other a very meditative and peaceful quality.

Don't know who it was that said photography was "painting with light", but that is what your images illustrate.

Some great photos and great photography on the last ones by you I am guessing. Love the Abbey. I like to paint arches and columns plenty of room to spread out the paint on a canvas.

Beautiful patterns of light, the station in particular.

The DC station sure looks more impressive then the ones I've seen here in Atlanta. But the Abbey ruins! Wow. Thank you for posting these shadow and light photos.

I love the rhythm and repetition created by these structures - and the photographs capture those so well. I especially like the last two. Thanks for sharing.

The subway photos are hugely impressive. That ceiling seems to go on for ever. I've been to Fountains Abbey, your pictures do justice to a wonderful place.
