A-Z Challenge 2021 - Photo Shoot: W - Wood Pigeon, Weddings, Whitby

Wood pigeons are very common in our village and currently a pair are building a nest in one of our hedges. Still they can take a rest from time to time.

Two wedding photos separated by more than 60 years - I'll let you decide which is which.

We live quite close to Whitby, the North Yorkshire town associated with many things including Captain Cook, Dracula and of course the Abbey.

Not all visitors are allowed in the Visitor Centre and some then decide to get in everybody's way.

Others just find the walking too much to handle.

Going for Gold - Sepia Saturday

When it comes to wedding photos we do not have that many to match with a group like this -

The Yorkshire sun is shining on Alexander (Alan's son) and Heather today. May they go for gold as some of us have done..

St Michael's Church, Stamford
(View down Ironmonger Street)
That's the church in which my wife and I married in 1958. Sadly now it has been converted into shops.

However on that fateful day a wedding group graced its doorway.

L-R: My mother, best man Ian Norton, groom and bride, bride's father and mother (Bob and Amy), bridesmaid Clare Trusty
The only survivors from this group are my wife and I. However I can show you Bob and Amy with one of their granddaughters as a bride from some time later.

Time warps as you get older and already our golden wedding has come and gone. In 2008 our sons and daughter treated the happy pair to a celebration on Tresco in the Isles of Scilly.

And just so that they are not left out, here's the 'kids' with their mother.

One of the things we acquired for our golden wedding was a souvenir rosebush. Here's how it looks today nearly six years later.

The Golden Rose
I tried to find some music to end this post and could find nothing better than;-

The title may be 'One Rainy Wish' but listen to the words - 'Golden rose, the colour of the dream I had not too long ago.'

For other nuptial reminiscences accept the invitations at Sepia-Saturday-233.

150 Years of Weddings - Sepia Saturday

I can't find family photos going back 150 years. However I may be able to link a few others if I start in Victorian times.

HRH The Princess Beatrice was the fifth daughter and youngest child of Queen Victoria who edited the journals and diaries of Queen Victoria after her death. From her marriage in 1885 until 1917 she was known as Princess Henry of Battenberg.

There is no link to Victoria or the Royal Family in my next picture, it's from just over a hundred years after the wedding of Victoria and Albert.

It reminds me that it is our wedding anniversary next week. I wonder what happened to that hair!

Princess Beatrice's full name was Beatrice Mary Victoria Feodore. The present Princess Beatrice of York is Beatrice Elizabeth Mary and she is not married yet,

In Sweden in 2010 a Crown Princess was married.

Before you go to check our other wedding related posts at SS-140 you might like to walk down the aisle with our last Royal bride.

Incidentally Princess Beatrice of York wore an infamous hat at this wedding, not at all like that held by the groom on
