Sunday Stamps II - A-Z (2) 'D' - Dancers, Douglas and Old Toys

I looked for a stamp for Mothers' Day but only had one from Dubai commemorating Arabs Mothers Day. That is on the 21 March this year so I went for Greek dancers instead.

Greece - 2 January 2002
Now I just have to find out what dances are depicted.

I have never been to the Isle of Man or walked down -

Douglas Promenade - IOM - 5 July 1973
Hidden away amongst the toys from Sweden I found this -
Old Doll - Sweden - 14 November 1978
We still have two of my daughter's old dolls but their home made clothes are not as elegant as this.

To see what other 'D' related stamps have been chosen this week check out what's on offer at Sunday-stamps-d.

Ports or Harbours - Sunday Stamps II

The ports and harbours on the stamps I have this week are all associated with islands - one from the Isle of Man and four from New Zealand.

Port St Mary
Once a major fishing a trading port in the south of the Isle of Man the inner harbour and pier were created in 1912.

Auckland & Wellington Harbours
Wellington and Auckland are located on New Zealand's North Island. Wellington is the country's capital.

Waitemata Harbour provides the main access by sea to Auckland and is often referred to as Auckland Harbour; it is crossed by the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Lyttleton Harbour & Port Chalmers
Both are in the South Island. Port Chalmers is the main port of  the city of Dunedin and lies 10km inside Otago Harbour.

For other ports of call and harbours in which to take shelter follow the links at Sunday-Stamps-II-28.

Crown Dependencies - Sunday Stamps from Europe

With so many European countries and and stamps to choose from I have decided to remain close to home. However I have never visited the Crown Dependencies of Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. Conveniently their stamps are all on one page in my album.
Guernsey, Jersey & the Isle of Man
Guernsey and Jersey are in the Channel Islands between England and France. A bailiwick is a territory governed by a baliff. Both Guernsey and Jersey are bailiwicks, each covering a collection of smaller Channel Islands.

The Isle of Man is situated in the Irish Sea between the United Kingdom and Ireland. The island's parliament, called the Tynwald, is said to be the world's oldest continuous parliament dating from AD 979, or earlier. Its symbol shown on its stamps is a triskelion - three legs joined at the thigh. The triskelion is reflected in the island's Latin motto, 'Quocunque jeceris stabit,'  or 'whichever way you throw it, it will stand.'
