Birds - Sunday Stamps II

On our recent trip to America we found these Canadian birds just across the Detroit River on Belle Isle.

That's Canada on the other Bank
I wonder how well the birds on these American stamps are known across there.

USA - Songbirds in the snow, 4 August 2016
  • Golden Crown Ringlet
  • Cedar Waxwing
  • Northern Cardinal
  • Red Breasted Nuthatch
I thing the cardinal is the only one I've seen. The Northern Cardinal has been adopted as the State bird for Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.

For more birds join in this week at Sunday-Stamps-II-94.

Hi Bob - the stamp selections are certainly bright and cheerful ... me too - the Cardinal I knew ... cheers Hilary

They would cheer up any winter envelope. Beautiful birds and an inventive theme.

We had a Cardinal pair in the yard yesterday. Nuthatches I've seen lots of. Canada Geese (I don't think they are Canadian, just their name) I was very familiar with when I lived in Idlewild. Their cry as they fly is very haunting. We also found them here in Atlanta our local park. They fly over to a shopping center to eat, don't know if they feed them or what and then fly back to Adam's Park to swim around in the pond and waddle around on the walking path. I hear them honking as they fly sometimes and it makes me sort of homesick for Idlewild.

I might have seen that Golden Crown Ringlet but don't remember seeing any Cedar Waxwings.

You can see the Cardinal all over North America. We had a big bird feeder in NC and loved to watch the male feeding the female - nesting practice.

I have also seen the Cedar Waxwing but not the others. Attractive stamps. Next time you come to the States we should meet up. We are not that far from the border.

I've seen the cardinal only in pictures; must be impressive to see this bright coloured bird in real!
Beautiful stamps, and I love your Canadian geese photo!

I have no idea why they released those stamps in August, but that I side I really like them. They'll look great on Christmas mail.

Love the bright printed colors of these stamps! Bob, I can send you a postcard with the Singapore bird stamps I've shown in my blog.

Please email me your address at avi_resha at yahoo dot com.

At first sight, the designs seemed old to me. Then I realised that they have been just released! And I thought immediately the same of FinnBadger: why in August? Maybe to give people the time to gather winter stamps?
