Going for Gold - Sepia Saturday

When it comes to wedding photos we do not have that many to match with a group like this -

The Yorkshire sun is shining on Alexander (Alan's son) and Heather today. May they go for gold as some of us have done..

St Michael's Church, Stamford
(View down Ironmonger Street)
That's the church in which my wife and I married in 1958. Sadly now it has been converted into shops.

However on that fateful day a wedding group graced its doorway.

L-R: My mother, best man Ian Norton, groom and bride, bride's father and mother (Bob and Amy), bridesmaid Clare Trusty
The only survivors from this group are my wife and I. However I can show you Bob and Amy with one of their granddaughters as a bride from some time later.

Bob, Christine and Amy
Time warps as you get older and already our golden wedding has come and gone. In 2008 our sons and daughter treated the happy pair to a celebration on Tresco in the Isles of Scilly.

The Golden Couple
And just so that they are not left out, here's the 'kids' with their mother.

Andrew, Rachel and Adrian
One of the things we acquired for our golden wedding was a souvenir rosebush. Here's how it looks today nearly six years later.

The Golden Rose
I tried to find some music to end this post and could find nothing better than;-

The title may be 'One Rainy Wish' but listen to the words - 'Golden rose, the colour of the dream I had not too long ago.'

For other nuptial reminiscences accept the invitations at Sepia-Saturday-233.

That's a nice personal story Bob, not long now till your 60th! Read what Wiki says about the use of the church - all sounds very glum.

How truly romantic, which weddings usually are. With all the hoopla, we often forget the reason for the marriage, that these 2 people love each other. Your rose is lovely, as well as your family!

what a wonderful gift for your wedding anniversary - the golden rose. And hasn't it grown into a beautiful thing - just like your marriage.

A wonderful way to celebrate joyful days past and present, Bob. That's a great idea to plant a rosebush as a souvenir.

Congratulations and well done on 50 years of marriage. A wonderful achievement!
The rose is beautiful also. So have you started to think about what to acquire for 60 years?

Nice wedding collection! I had to google that song One Rainy Wish, it is a special and very fitting song for love and life.

Oops, I forgot to mention the love I could feel pouring from all of the photos, another plus for seeing wedding photos! But your The Golden Couple, is so precious Bob!

Lovely golden reminiscences, and the rose certainly looks to be thriving well too.

Lovely pictures Bob and congratulations to both of you for being together for so long. You look very happy together. I thought our 42 was pretty good, but 56 is way better.

Happiness shines from all these photos, but the first one is tinged with sadness. I would hate to hear that the church where we wed was now a shop! Thankfully my mother still worships there and it seems to be thriving.

"One Rainy Wish" has some wonderful words, but my favorite, which I sang at a cousin's wedding & plan to sing (or have sung) at our 50th anniversary in 4 years, is "Love Changes Everything" by Sarah Brightman. Every word in the song is truer than true. That is sad about the church you were married in. The beautiful church I watched being built, grew up, & married in, 20+ years later was struggling to keep going by housing three different religious groups. I don't know what is happening with it today? I can only hope it is somehow still flourishing.

What a great looking couple you are. And the rose bush is splendid! I agree with everyone about the sad passing of the church. I read a contemporary architect's comments the other day about airports becoming the new Cathedrals...the centers of cities and the iconic structures.

This is a fine post. And a fine collection of photographs to accompany it. Odd about the church.

Your rosebush is beautiful. It's always wonderful to hear of a couple making it to 50. We're at 41.

That's a delightful photo of you and your wife celebrating your Golden wedding anniversary. You both look so happy. And lovely, too, to mark it by planting such a beautiful rose.
