When we visited Detroit Zoo last week I discovered many treasured animals; my photos of them will be treasured too. Here are just a few.
|
Giraffe at feeding station September 2013 |
A lot of animals were not photogenic as they persisted in presenting their backside to the camera. This treasure was worth waiting for.
|
Gorilla on a walk about |
Up in a tree there was what look like a discarded fur.
Until it turned to face me.
|
Red Panda |
Despite its stripes there is not much chance of it being confused with another treasure.
|
Tiger on the prowl |
Talking of stripes these animals had them in abundance.
|
Female Zebra out to graze. |
This fellow however wanted her to go inside. Who would argue with that horn.
|
Rhino on guard |
But watching everyone quite closely is a treasure said to have been rescued from a junk yard in Detroit.
|
Lioness in charge |
She gets my vote every time.

These truly are treasures, Bob. I hate seeing them confined in zoos, but it is a necessary evil.
Lovely photos!
Animals are always my favourite to photograph. Great choices Bob.
Great shots of some beautiful animals.
That's a pretty nice collection, Bob.
Being patient paid off, didn't it?

Wonderful shots, Bob! You're right, animals are real treasures and you've certainly captured them very well here. I like that red panda a lot :)
For one wild moment I thought you had a pet giraffe............
Love the Red Panda, we saw them years ago at Whipsnade Zoo - definitely my favourites!
It poured the day my wife and I planned our day to Busch Gardens.
Gotta get there.
Note to self: plug in camera
I was visiting a Zoo this summer with a friend and it was truly amazing. As we never see that kind of wild animals here in Europe it is truly the amazing opportunity to discover more about them.
This is a treasure for me as well. In all the years that I grew up and lived in Michigan, we never got here, and now today, from your lovely trip, I can see it close up, as if I were there too! Great treasure indeed!
Red Panda? wow what a beauty.. and unusual..,.,btw on your comment.. not triplets... my girls are each 3 years apart and my sone is 9 years younger than the oldest... guess I lucked out, my kids weren't hard on their shoes!. :-)
We went to the zoo a few years back, but our pictures weren't nearly as lovely as these. I definitely vote for the lioness, too: how magnificent!
