Caravans and Beasties - Sepia Saturday

I was in danger of going overboard when I saw this weeks prompt.

I knew I had some caravans from another North East fair that I had shown before.
Yarm Fair Caravans c 1949
Apart from goldfish I was a bit short on beasties until I remembered my sons at a seaside fair over 40 years ago.
Little Monkeys (No, not my sons)
When it comes to animals there is no need for me to go far from home. I just need to keep an eye on what moves in my garden,
Woodpile Inhabitant ( Frog or Toad?)
For some reason or another our bird feeder gets raided from time to time; if I am quick I can catch the culprit in the act.
Squirrel Attack - May 2008
I wouldn't mind if the beggar didn't bury his walnuts in the lawn.

Young rabbits also take liberties with our plants.
Rabbit eats its fill - July 2008
This year I have  different strategy for them.
Got the little blighter
Before I let it go I gave it a good talking to. I dropped it back over the wall you can see behind us - with strict instructions to warn its friends that "In that house they eat rabbits."

Having had an operation on my leg earlier this month I have not been very mobile. Today has been the first day for three weeks that I have been permitted to walk the two miles to the local garage to fetch a morning paper. This is what I met along the way.
Caravans in transit.
I was tempted to hitch a ride.

Now I suggest you do that a take a look at what other Sepians have done for Sepia-Saturday-179.

Squirrels just make me mad -- they steal food from the cute little birds. We're always looking for new ways to confound the squirrels, and this year we found the best bird feeder. When squirrels stand on the perch, the door to the food closes. Take THAT, you furry rat!

A really enjoyable post. The picture of your sons is wonderful; those expressions speak volumes. What a lucky capture in that last photo too!

Can't believe you really met that caravan today...so conveniently !!

Your two boys are very adorable in that photo! The view of the caravans is interesting. Get well soon!

Outstanding to see the prompt in real life! Glad to hear you are getting a little better - every day a bit more.

What a coincidence that you saw those caravans today.

We get rabbits, snakes, lizards, frogs and birds galore in our yard but no squirrels. I think they are cute.

Glad to hear that your leg is getting better.

Good shot of the squirrel. The battle to keep them from stealing food from the bird feeders is on-going. Every time I figure out a gimmick, they figure a way around it. It's so embarrassing to be outsmarted by a squirrel!

Oh my goodness that bunny is adorable! I really like the photo of the boys (that are not your sons) but cute! Also, the Yarm Fair looks as though they had a nice affair happening.

Squirrels! We are over run with them. I would have to move if they didn't have those fluffy tails that keep them from being confused with rats. Seeing those caravans just now was a very lucky happening.

Walking two miles to get a paper sounds pretty impressive.

Good luck with your leg! I'm 10 weeks out of hip replacement surgery; I'm here to tell you that it continues to get better. Love the shot of you and the bunny!

Rabbits and squirrels are cute but they can be a flaming nuisance. Good pictures though Bob.

Hope your leg continues to improve although if you can walk 2 miles you are in better nick that I am.

The only beastie that I would add is the deer who brazenly snack on my roses at the front deck. They have been known to take a summer siesta in the gazebo as well. Loved the photo of the chance meeting with the caravan.

A swell post for the theme, Bob. The two stout lads in the last pic look like they might be hitched to the wagon too. So far this year my wife has sent orders out to "do something" about squirrels, rabbits, ground hogs, and now mocking birds stealing "her" service berries. Perhaps I just need to learn how to talk to them! I hope fetching the newspaper will keep you fit. Works for my dog.

The monkeys reminded me of the parrot and monkey that my sister and I posed with for the tourist photographer at Land's End as children.

Bob, a beautiful post full of humour, sweet little "monkeys". I hope you found Peter's blue jacket and dropped it over the wall as well.

Your sons are darling. We are run over with squirrels now too. The burrows on our hillsides cause havoc as soon as we get any rain. Glad to hear you are on the mend.

We're over run with bunnies too. They burrow in our hillsides and play havoc with the slopes. Glad to hear you are on the mend.

An enjoyable post. I do like your collection of beasties. The squirrel is so cute - we don't have them, but we get more than our fair share of rabbits. In fact my uncles got through the Great Depression trapping and selling rabbits and my husband's family lived on rabbits when they were kids.

I am amazed that you caught that rabbit, hints? I spend my time clapping hands loudly thinking I imitate a shot gun and chasing the cotton tails away from the area...they feel too free to nibble at flowers and whatever they like. When we had the fox den nearby, we had little trouble with bunnies and squirrels...Hope you are back to your regular walks...

I first thought you called your own sons "beasties"... Nice pic though!!
So, that talk with the rabbit, did it work? Or are they still raiding your garden?!? (Most likely...)

Glad to ear you are on the mend.
Fortuitous encounter, that caravan.

Pat - the rabbit made the mistake of hiding under a shrub that backed onto a wall, The only way out was the way it went in which gave me enough room to grab it.

Tickelbear - one comes back occasionally, to the from garden this time where it has chance to outrun an old crock like me.

Hi Bob .. no one said frog or toad .. I'm sort of thinking toad - but I expect it's a frog!

Love seeing the boys and then that grownup boy at the end ..

Hope now that we have some warmer weather you'll be able to get back to near complete fitness ..

Cheers Hilary
