It has young birds in the nest which have no feathers at all at this stage. We don't have tree swallows in the UK; our swallows would not use a nest box like this

I wish we had cardinals out west, but I will have to be satisfied with your photo instead - that and the Western Tanagers that occasionally come to the bird bath.
Great shots. Michigan birds and Iowa birds are all the same. I hope your weather dries out soon for you.
