I promised myself last year that the 2017 A-Z Challenge would be my last. Then come February I found myself itching to find a theme. Appropriate there that for 'I' I have chosen -

The river flows for 28 miles from the middle of Hampshire into Southampton Water and out into the sea.

If you are a fly-fishing fan then the Itchen is the place to be. The river is said to be one of the finest chalk fly-fishing rivers in England - some claim in the world. Or is that just a fisherman's tale?

Its source is to be found in springs just south of Cheriton; it flows north before it turns to flow through the cathedral city of Winchester on its way to the sea on the south coast.
