Maintaining the USA theme this week I met Washington Irving's headless horseman from the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

It's a while since I read the book but I have to assume that the horseman is shown against the moon.

Hi Bob - I haven't heard about our Lewes fireworks yet (no trains ... so not sure what happened - I'll find out later). But I didn't know about Sleepy Hollow ... I must get one of Washington Irving's books from the library ...

I chose this theme because it was Guy Fawkes - so no stamps commemorating that event?!
I like the 'headless horseman', especially as it fits in with my recent binge watching of Sleepy Hollow.
he Legend of Sleepy Hollow is perfect for this theme, and an interesting stamp.
I love the design of the Sleepy Hollow stamp, beautiful tree, colours and story telling in just one image.
I didn't know this legend, neither did I know Guy Fawkes. Thank you both for letting me learn!
I've never seen the flag at midnight stamp before - although I generally find the flag series as a whole somewhat uninspiring, I do like that one.
And I didn't even think of the other stamps you showed - great examples.
Funny, I forgot about Guy Fawkes when I wrote my blog. Good stamps. I like the headless horseman one. Did you get to see any fireworks on Saturday?
I wouldn't like to meet the headless horseman, scary in the film, but fine on the stamp.
That last stamp is interesting ... I've heard of the title but never had the chance to look into the story. Perhaps now that I'm prompted by your stamp :)
