Circus Acts/Fairs - Sunday Stamps

A set of four commemoratives on British Fairs were issued on 5 October 1983. I only have the first of these.

Great Britain - Merry-go-round
The other three covered
  • 20.1/2p Big wheel, Helter Skelter and Performing Animals
  • 28p Sideshows
  • 31p Early Produce Fair

From 2002 I found some circus stamps

Great Britain - Lion Tamer
You'll notice that this First Class stamp was a Europa issue. However the 45p stamps was not.

Great Britain - Krazy Kar
These two were part of a set of 5 issued on 10 April 2002. The others were:

  • Slack wire act (Second class stamp)
  • Trick Tri-cyclists (Europa)
  • Equestrienne (65p)

Viridian's theme for this week has been 'circus clowns or fun fairs' - to see other contributions check out the links at Sunday-stamps-175.

Snap for the 1983 issue but the 2002 stamps passed me by completely.

I love those old merry go rounds and there a surprising number still around to delight. Like Sheila I missed the 2002 stamps and found also I did not possess any of that year Europa stamps from any other country either, strange.

And snap for me with the 2002 set. I prefer the subject of your first stamp however - no real animals involved.

I have the PHQ Sideshows card from the first set, but not the others in the set.

I remember the 1983 one, but totally missed the 2002 stamps. Those are great designs, especially the lion tamer.

Beautiful illustrations!
I think the one with the lion funny - looks as if the lion is more afraid of the tamer than the other way round, or just wondering what that human's head is looking for in his mouth.
