Gospel Singers - Sunday Stamps

A lot of black stamps look, well, ....black. I decided therefore not to show them. Instead I picked these:

USA - Gospel Singers 1998

I have to confess that I only knew of Mahalia Jackson before so I have learnt something new again today,

See what else black you can find at Viridian's Sunday-Stamps-104

I like those, looks like you could join in and sing along with them. What a great set.
I nearly went that way as well but the sum total of my holding was a judge and Paul Robeson.

The gospel in the black churches is full of life.

Ah Ms. Jackson can sing! The other singers are new to me too! thank you for participating. Your 'something new' or 'begiinings' is next week!

Oh! I got that Mahalia stamp too! I should listen to them in youtube. Hopefully there are video recordings of their songs there.

My brother was a gospel record collector, so I was exposed to many of these singers - when I chose to listen :)

Did you notice how many of this year's Christmas cards used black for the background. Anything to do with our miserable times I wonder.

I also wanted to post stamps with Africans or African-Americans, but I didn't have such stamps. :( Nice series.

These are new to me and so are the singers, which is a pity because they look really great.
