Children's Stories - Sunday Stamps II

For the International Year of the Child in 1979 Great Britain issued a set of four stamps on 11 July.

Great Britain - 1979
These three are based on:
  • The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Beatrix Potter)
  • The Wind in the Willows (Kenneth Grahame)
  • Winnie the Pooh (A A Milne)
The fourth in the set shows Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll).

The 1998 series of Famous Children's Fantasy Novels included :

Great Britain
  • The Hobbit (J K Tolkien)
  • The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (C S Lewis)

A second class stamp from the Animal Tales series (8 stamps) in 2006 had another of Beatrix Potter stories.

Great Britain
  • The Tale of Mr Jeremy Fisher

Although I have the More About Paddington (Michael Bond) stamp I have not seen the others. Posted here.

Looking back I find that I showed a FDC of full set of stamps including Alice from the 1979 International Year of the child
last year here.

C.S Lewis, a favorite of mine, especially the story about Narnia.

Hi Bob - I do love the art-work ... to imagine and then depict the characters and stories, let alone the writing that inspired .. Wonderful to see - thanks .. cheers Hilary

Lovely stamps. I had received the Alice's that is missing in this post, but I had never seen the rest of the set. I like especially the frog.

Lovely. I remember the year as I had my own 'year of the child' in the form of my newborn son. I wasn’t into stamps then, but I did buy commemorative mugs - I wonder where they are now.

The Wind in the Willows is still a favourite story to read as an adult. And I really like the old drawings of Winnie the Pooh.

Super stamps,I like the Year of the Child ones they look like the illustrations from the books. The Jeremy Fisher one is fun, I'd like to put a few of those hopping across an envelope.

Beautiful stamps! I love all of them.
And they show an important part of children's book history (well, some books, if not all, aren't for children only :-) )

Great stamps. Beatrix Potter seems to be a royal mail fave as she gets a set of stamps in 2016 as well.
