If you had a job like hewing coal you definitely would get very black. Stamps for Social Reformers included one for Thomas Hepburn and a man doing just that job.

I guess that no one does this job anymore as all the deep mines in the UK have closed.

ReplyDeleteThank goodness there's no more coal mines - that kind of blackness needed to be replaced. (though I'm sure those miners were proud of their work at the time)

ReplyDeleteThat flag must have just been waiting for this week. Those Reformers stamps were very black and the detail looks much better when seen here.
