Although the Winter Olympics are due in Sochi next month I find that almost all of my Olympic stamps deal with summer games so I am going to cheat a bit. I'll start with the man who 'started' the modern games.

Hungary |
For winter sports I have chosen two stamps from Norway neither of which are 'Olympic' stamps.
 |
Norway - Skiing World Championship 1997 |
 |
Norway - Holmenkollen 1979 |
Why have I chosen Norwegian stamps?
Norway is the only country to have held the Winter Paralympics twice. Once at Geilo in 1980 and once at Lillehammer in 1994.
The 2014 Winter Paralympics are due at Sochi in March.
And I just happen to have a 1994 stamp from the Paralympics.

Norway - Paralympics 1994 |
A wonderful selection, the '97 Norway colourful stamp is great.
ReplyDeleteI think the 1994 Norway stamp beautiful. A fascinating design!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
And good to pay attention to the Paralympics. In our country the Paralympic Games seem to be forgotten often, as most attention (of media and tv-watchers) goes to the Olympics. However, in the Dutch stamp sheet issued 2012 there's also a stamp for Esther Vergeer, who has won gold in the (summer) Paralympics in Sydney, Athens and Beijing.
What a wonderfully detailed stamp for the Skiing Championships.
ReplyDeleteI really like the first Hungarian stamp.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us this week.
ReplyDelete'cheating' can bring some beautiful stamps sometimes ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat to see that Paralympics have been commemorated with today's stamps as well...and those are some really lovely stamps too!
I particularly like the World Championship stamp from Norway.
ReplyDeleteAll lovely stamps, a great tribute!
ReplyDeleteAll are very nice but my favorite is the Norway - Skiing World Championship 1997. Almost makes me want to see Snow. No! Just kidding.
