Hong Kong became a British Colony after the First Opium War (1839-1842). It remained under British Control until 1997 before being handed over to China. I am able to show stamps when the island was British.

This is an Asian bird I hadn't heard of before, I found one on You Tube which I thought I would include.
For other Chinese stamps you need to fly over to Viridian's Sunday-stamps-158.
The Queen looks so young in those pictures. Love the Bulbul.

How interesting to see stamps from two different eras.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the Bulbul - in the west of Asia there's also a Bulbul, but I am told that it's different from this one (more like a nightingale). Thank you for adding the Bulbul movie, so nice to hear the bird's singing!
1997 seems so recent until I actually work it out. Showing my age - like the queen. :)
