Scouts - Sepia Saturday

I've never been a member of the Scouts; the only uniform I've worn was that of the Royal Signals during my National Service days. The theme this week was likely to be a challenge.


I decide the best thing I could do was to learn a bit about semaphore. I hope you can read this 'message.'
 



This should not be too difficult to work out. Meanwhile here's the only scouting photo in my files.

    Oh goody - a game! It reminds me of a Simon Drew tee shirt we have - “I am-a-mad-dog-waving-two-flags” Nice ideea Bob!

    Bob, it is too early in the morning for such a brain puzzle! I love the scout picture, the boys are so cute.

    I was in the Brownies, for a bit, and in the Bluebirds for about as long.

    All I can make out in the message is that the first and last letters are the same.

    It seems strange seeing Cub Scouts in green. I don't know what they wear here now, but their uniforms were dark blue with yellow trim when I was young.

    I semi-poor at semaphore. I think it says: I am trying to keep the mosquitoes from biting.
    I like the scout picture, very stylish uniforms.

    Love the cub scout photo, especially the boy in the headlock. I remember having semaphore flags in the guide room, I never got further than the vowels, very rarely useful:-)

    I have no idea about the message. I asked my husband but he said he doesn't know semaphore either. At least he'd heard of it.

    Postcardy's right of course, the first and last letter is the same. Now what is it this week that starts and ends with the same letter?

    Well it spells "SCOUT" because I just looked it up in my mother's 1932 handbook. Good one!

    And fun image. A bundle of energy about to explode!

    I was having a discussion the other day with my son about the occasions it might be useful to have two monitors attached to the same computer. I was trying to think of excuses for getting a new monitor. I can now add "when trying to translate semaphore" to the list of reasons. Happy Sepia Saturday Bob

    This was fun! As soon as I realized that the first and last letters were the same, I guessed SCOUTS, and I'm glad that other commenters have confirmed it. I was too lazy to look it up, but all those hours of watching "Wheel of Fortune" have made a decent guesser out of me.

    From what I saw yesterday, I daresay their uniforms are beige with scarf of different colors.
