Going Out on Sepia Saturday

If Saturday is the night to party I give you the choice of two. Which one would you prefer?

Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity House 1922
These party goers pose in front of the fraternity house during the Greek swing out weekend, the second of the fall social weekends at Washington and Jefferson College in 1922.

The second party also has an academic link, this time in Oxford, England.

These party goers had made a night of it at the Queen's College Ball on 26 June 2010. (Photo by Queen's Ball form Oxford, England - Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 generic license)

However I must admit I'd prefer to be going out with these:

Author John Scott (1774-1827) after James Barenger (1780-1831)

For more pointers on going out you need to pop across to Sepia Saturday 118

  1. That ball looks exciting, and those tents, amazing. Of course the dogs take the first prize! Very interesting Bob!

  2. I love the idea of the Swing Out party. Although, that group doesn't look very swingin'. Maybe after they'd had a few drinks!

  3. You can't beat going out to a big 'Do'! Summer balls were such fun. I can see why the dogs are your choice though.

  4. I'm guessing the wine was better at the second event, so I'd go with that one.

  5. Bob, I like a choice; I would like to go to the Queens college Ball; I would like to wear a long gown! Enjoyed your photo, reunions are always nice! Had to laugh about your choice. I understand my father went every year hunting. It is still very traditional in Switzerland, the hunting time is in autumn and for two weeks only.

  6. I wonder if the frat parties were as sedate as the group photo? Hmm, maybe not. I'll go to the Ball -- thanks for the invitation!

  10. Hi Bob ... thanks for the choice. I think that I would dig the frat party the most.

Party on Wayne, Party on Garth! Not that they were frat boys, lol.

    Have a fun weekend,

    Kathy M.

  11. I would choose the first one because I can see who is attending.

  13. A difficult choice, but the Queen's Ball intrigues me. I love the shot of the hunters...the hounds... I almost posted a sorority clip this week on my return but went with college girls....

  14. I noticed a girl in the front row of the fraternity photo has her hands in her sleeves, brrr, guess I will have to choose the summer event, although who could resist an outing with a pair of pointers.

  15. I like the swing out pic- but I can definitely appreciate why you would prefer the last one- hunting is a big "going out" deal indeed. Nowadays it is planned almost like a party.

  16. I think I would choose the first - I have always wondered what on earth a Fraternity House was. And a Greek Swing Out sounds like fun (or maybe it is something to do with national debt)

  17. I like running around the woods with the dog(s).

  18. I would pick the Queen's Ball as I didn't go to college as a young person, nontraditional student and never been hunting. Very creative work on this theme.

  19. I'd hang with the flapper set in 1922, no doubt. Nice trio of pictures on the theme.

  21. Having been to enough fraternity parties during college to last me two lifetimes, I'll go with the Queen's Ball. :-)
