Russia - Sunday Stamps

Recently I came across an airmail envelope from Russia to a lady in Wakefield in England. It contained 5 of 15 stamps from a series on Monuments issued from 1992 to 1995.

Russia
Each stamp carries the year. All I have to do now is to identify the monuments. Hopefully someone from Russia who visits my blog will identify them for me.

I also have some stamps from other countries formerly in the Soviet block.

Lithuania (2) and Latvia (over-stamped Russian stamp)
I did not visit my market stall this week, so no photo for you yet.

For more from Russia and the counties formerly under its control check out the links to be found at Viridian's Sunday-stamps-169.

An interesting selection, sorry I can't help with identifying the buildings. The first cover looks like it is/was a prepaid envelope with some stamps printed on. Nice example of postal stationery, not always easy to find.

I'm always fascinated by over-stamped stamps produced by conflicts. They have such a story to tell. The large Lithuania stamp is wonderfully ornate. I think your 100 denomination definitive stamp may be the Moscow Kremlin, a passing Russian may have to help you with the others:-)

I wonder who the pilot is in the Latvian stamp.

Fascinating historical record and a great find.

Lisa is right; the two blue stamps are printed on the envelope - I hadn't noticed before. The letter came from the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

the 1992 Russian stamp does show the Moscow Kremlin indeed as Joy above said...the 1993 shows the Statue of K. Minin and D. Pozharskyi, while the 1995 stamps - the 750 rub. one shows the State Library in Moscow while the 1500 rub one shows the Pushkin museum, also in Moscow....

hope that helped :)

I quite like the pilot and propellor on the Latvian stamp.

Seeing CCCP on a stamp makes me almost nostalgic. Yes those were bad days, but they were my youth!
Thank you for joining in this week.

I like the simple one color on a white background.

Although the detail in the Lithuanian stamps is commendable, that style is not a favourite of mine.

My favorite is the pilot.
