Postal Services - Sunday Stamps

As I am on holiday in the USA this is what I prepared in advance for this week's theme.

Iceland - UPU Anniversary
Last week when admiring wild animals on stamps from South Africa another of their stamps caught my eye.

Republic of South Africa - Mail Coach
This set me looking for similar stamps - and led me to this;-

Sweden - Mail Coach
which was issued in 1971. It shows an oil painting from 1928 by E Schwab which is now in the Postal Museum in Stockholm.

If you look closely you will see the posthorn signal used by many countries on their stamps so it seems appropriate to include a video.

I may have trouble taking part for the next three weeks - it depends what I can find in my daughter's albums.

I will however check in as you should at Sunday-stamps-136.

Well done for that Swedish stamp!
I hadn't ever heard the Post Horn Gallop, so thanks for including that.
Hope you are enjoying your hols.

I am surprised by how much the RSA stamp looks like a scene from the American West!
Thank you for joining in.

I would have thought you could have found Pony Express and US mail coach stamps somewhere. The ones you did have were interesting.

What a fun video. I wonder who on the original stagecoach got to blow the posthorn, a small compensation for sitting out in all weather I think.

i Have just realised why stamps and blog posts go so well together, it is because you enlarge the stamps and we get a chance to see their full beauty.

A lot of countries use the post horn symbol for their postal services, but the horns are curled up not straight like the one in the video.
